Mrs Gorgeous is part of my Roadrunner series. I love painting roadies. Each one has their own backstory and personality.

These have been my go to‘s when it comes to telling stories about my experiences living out in the desert. Some of the many wonderful characters I continue to cross paths with when I stay in Big Bend.

Discoveries of infidelity. There’s always more to the story than we know. As someone who’s been through a divorce it’s hard to manage emotions and sometimes delusions of grandeur. Fortunately for me, I have an incredible ex wife. But, my mind definitely went to all those places. This piece forces you to look closer. Go a little deeper. What’s the real story here.

Pabs, The Man In Me. I had drawn a small portrait of Picasso to cover up a bad tattoo I had many years ago. I chose Pablo Picasso because deep down I wanted him watching over me. It was a pretty deep concept tattoo for an 18 yr old boy. Not the greatest tattoo. But it’s still there.
The illusion, the colors, the stories behind his works in addition to the freedom. I’ve always admired that and have yearned to be free with my art with no chains. I am in a ‘magical’ place of creative contentment.

Me More Cowboy Than You. Oil on canvas. 60x48.
This piece is about the man who works the land and the men that give it away. You work the land, you live off it, you understand it.
A changing of the guard. The new money coming in. The lack of appreciation. The behind the scenes. Loss of the last working class. The great story tellers. For new money and shallow dreams.

Charcoal on paint.

Mrs Peaches is here to stay at peaches coffee off Hamilton Pool rd, Austin, Texas. I’d be happy to paint you something extremely close/identicle. These roadies have been quite literally flying out the window. Mixed medium.

Part of my ‘Love Is All’ series. Inspired by a divorce. Fortunately, the hardest part was reliving the good memories. It helps me heal and remember how far we’ve come and how much of a beautiful job we’ve done raising our kids. Fond memories. The first walk I took with my beautiful son and beautiful ex wife. She’s something special. In order to move on I needed to feel everything to its core. This is one of my more sentimental favorites. It breathes fresh start. New beginnings.

Desert Duel. 60x39 Inspired by big, bold, alive, beautiful, desert colors and wildlife. I’ve seen this scene play out a few times on my ranch by Camel Hump, Terlingua, Texas. It never ends well. Someone gets fed. But for me it’s the element of surprise. A way of life. Then it becomes a thing of beauty.

This gem is perfect for almost any room of the house.
Mixed Medium 60x42

Mostly acrylic on canvas with charcoal.
Terlingua, Texas holds a special place in my heart. A staple is the porch. Some friends from far and near. Getting together sharing tunes or cords they’ve learned. Sometimes the signing is superb and sometimes it’s pretty rough. There’s always the local town drink in this case at least 23. Then there’s also that one special musician who pops up. Fun to people watch. Always a great stop for a coldie a laugh, a smoke and a bite at the Starlight. There’s a fu

Inspired by a moment in Marfa. A gentleman had walked in the café while I was enjoying my coffee and I couldn’t help but think he looked a lot like me. I had an out of body experience. On my way to Arizona, as I sat in this café I wondered where this man might be headed. It made me think of where I’m headed. Where I’d like to go and how I’d like to do it.

Facing north of my ranch on Camel Hump, Terlingua, I’m often dumbounded when staring at 9 Point Mesa. When the light hits it changes personalities throughout the day. I’ve often imagined myself here 200 years before. This would be me after a days work. It brings calm. It represents the simpler times in life.

Charcoal/ink on canvas Reminds me of my old rag tag creative friends, self included. Musicians, actors, characters. I’ve a plethora of old chatacters in my head. These look to me more like a band of misfits that are feeling the nerves on stage. Perhaps a little stage fright. It’s one of those poeces where I just let it go and what ever comes out comes out. That’s the best place to live as an artist. Present, adrift yet in it.

This massive piece is inspired by the many travels I take from Austin to Big Bend.

Commissioned piece for the Buckingham’s. Mixed medium. 60x48. This was pure joy. It was a lovely collaboration with the Buckingham’s. Fun to play with and the desired outcome is a show stopper.

My love for the Burros almighty grows deep.

Nothing like staying warm out in West Texas. I love the fashion and characters who live out in the desert full time. These two ladies are locals in my town. A Mexican and an American who went to school in the desert. Souls Of Big Bend. Like night coyotes always on the prowl.

This was a commissioned piece for a really cool couple who live in the AZ foothills. I by happenstance had met Kim through instagram. I’d made a donation to the Trail Conservancy here in Austin. She used to be on the board and saw my work. Kim had reached out and we met at the Civil Goat on Cuernavaca in Austin where she had seen some of my work. I chatted with her and her husband and we really hit it off, so much so that I said I’d drive the piece from Austin to AZ. I’ll be back for another vis
